Lega Nord

This weekend was completely exhausting. As originally planned, I went on the group trip to Verona on Saturday. It's a very cool little city, but quite touristy. I saw the mini-colosseum and Juliet's balcony, both of which were crowded but great to see anyway. Again, lunch was out of this world. Our trip lunches are the only food expense paid for by the program, so I ate abundantly. In fact, I even tasted Verona's delicacy - horsemeat.

On Saturday afternoon, when a bunch of people were heading back to Bologna, I spontaneously joined a group that needed one more person to fill up a reservation for a room in a hostel in Venice that night. It was with a group of kids I haven't really hung out with before, so it was nice to have a little change of personality for a day. Venice was just like I remember it - gorgeous, packed, a little smelly, and filled with stunning water views.

I actually think the coolest part of my trip was when we got the the Piazza San Marco in Venice, there was a political protest going on by the Lega Nord. The Lega Nord is a socially conservative, federalist party that in the past has advocated for the secession of Northern Italy. It was SO cool to sit on the piazza and watch all these green-clad people march around and yell. I've never been a part of anything like that, so it was eye-opening. Admittedly, it was also a little scary to see so many people feel so passionately about issues upon which I take a much difference stance.

This afternoon, I'm going to try and figure out a way to put a link here so you can check out some of the pictures I've taken so far. For now, it's a rainy day in Bologna and I'm off to history class. Ciao!
