Today we had a group tour of the city with the program director. We walked and listened (to her incredibly fast Italian) for over two hours all throughout the city. It was a nice way to familiarize myself with the streets. The city felt busy enough to me, but all the director kept saying was, "Wait until the students come in mid September. Just wait; you have no idea what you're in store for..." (or the Italian version of that). So, I'm pretty excited to feel Bologna when its infused with 90,000 students that will arrive soon.
After the guided tour, I meandered around for a while, lazily making my way back to the apartment. In the Piazza di Netuno, I happened to see a man wearing a maroon t-shirt with that unmistakable white block silkscreen of "TRURO." The color was new this year, so I knew the man had bought it within the last three months. I went up to him and said, "Scusa, ma questo t-shirt, e di Truro, Cape Cod?" He replied in English with a French accent, "Yes, it is. I bought it on a trip there in June." We continued to chat (in English unfortunately... my first attempts to speak with a native were foiled indeed) and it is quite feasible that I was in fact the cashier who sold him that shirt. You'd think that I could finally escape my Jams days by crossing the Atlantic, but it seems not...
Right now it's a little after midnight and I'm hanging out with some people in the apartment. I stole Charlotte's DVD of 17 Again and one of my housemates is a huge Zac Efron so we're all sitting around and watching it. I have to end this now because I want to focus on the hilarity of this movie!
