Well, today's events went not at all as planned. My roommate Asia and I had the intention of taking the train to Arezzo for the day. Arezzo is a little town two hours south of here that is known for being the birthplace of Petrarch and having lots of pretty views from its hilly summit. Also, this weekend was a big antiques fair that had been given positive reviews, so we were pumped to do a little bargain shopping. Also, Charlotte, you might know that Cole and Dylan Sprouse of "The Suite Life of Zach and Cody" were in fact born in Arezzo, so I had been looking forward to seeing the town for that reason.
Anyway, the train to Arezzo was full, so we couldn't buy tickets. Never ones to despair, Asia and I did some quick thinking and chose to hop on a train to Florence. We didn't really have a plan, but it seemed like a little bit of an adventure.
The best part about our visit is that both of us had been to Florence twice before, so there wasn't the enormous pressure to see everything. We just wandered around and checked things out and enjoyed the beautiful sunny, crisp fall day.
There's really no city like Florence and it was lovely to be back. It was quite strange though to hear so much English. Almost no one there will speak Italian to you if you seem the slightest bit American and that was moderately frustrating.
We took a late train home and crashed after such a spontaneous day. No big plans for tomorrow as of yet, so maybe it will be just as adventurous!
Also, a small side note to my mom, who is celebrating her 47th birthday today: Happy Birthday Mama B! I love you!
